Using AI to Solve America’s Housing Crisis

Patrick E. Murphy is a former U.S. Congressman and serial entrepreneur at the forefront of construction innovation. He currently serves as Chief Investment Officer of Coastal Construction (ENR #89), one of Florida’s largest general contractors, and is the founder and CEO of Togal.AI, an award-winning artificial intelligence platform that automates estimating and takeoff processes. Under his leadership, Togal.AI has received national recognition, including AGC’s Innovation of the Year, first place at eMerge Americas’ Global Startup Showcase, and winner of The Big 5’s Startup City Global Pitch Competition in Dubai.

 

Patrick is also the founder of CodeComply.Ai, a cutting-edge solution using AI to streamline building code compliance and speed up permitting, and is helping to scale RENCO USA, a sustainable, fully approved composite building system that is transforming the way structures are built.

Having grown up in the industry, Patrick began as a day laborer and worked his way through the ranks—project engineer, estimator, and accounting manager—before earning his CPA at Deloitte. He later served in the U.S. House of Representatives (2013–2017), representing Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast, and was Florida’s Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in 2016.

After leaving office, he co-authored A Divided Union, chaired the Future Forum Foundation, and launched a bipartisan campus tour addressing political polarization. In 2023, Patrick was appointed to President Biden’s Export Council, where he serves as the only representative from the construction industry.

 

He and his wife Samantha reside in Miami Beach with their three rescue cats.
